California based artist Aaron Johnson enjoys an evolving interest with pop iconography, classic automobiles and local landscape. This is communicated in his works on board, canvas and paper. Every piece is carefully rendered in acrylic, pastel or graphite.

Pop media has always held Aaron’s attention. Going back to his childhood, inspired by the tunes, album covers, posters and images of musicians in magazines. Aaron would spend long hours attempting to recreate the “cool” he was seeing in the form of drawing and painting.

Another integral element in pop culture has become a side by side theme component to Aaron’s portraiture work; the art and design of the automobile. As iconic as any performer from any era, the presence of the automobile in popular culture is undeniable. A symbiotic unification, music and cars.

Aaron developed his skills at Sacramento City College and California College of The Arts in San Francisco, respectively. Attending these academic institutions, he gained indispensable understanding from instructors like Fred Dalkey, Dugald Stermer and Randy Chavez. Aaron’s art has been accepted into many juried events and has won a number of relevant awards. In 2016, his pastel work “Sterling Peterson” was added to the permanent collection at Sacramento City College.

You can find Aaron Johnson’s artwork in California at American Visions Art Gallery in Folsom, CA, Mr Musichead Gallery in Hollywood, Christopher Hill Art Gallery in Saint Helena, and Wonderland SF in San Francisco. Pieces are also available upon request at Walnut Street Gallery based in Colorado.
